Looking for a unique crafting experience? COXPER is hosting a “Cold Riveting Copper Tag Workshop” at the Hong Kong Design Centre. No high-temperature welding required—just your hands and a hammer to forge your own copper tag, allowing you to experience the grounded charm of raw metalwork. The event also includes an exclusive guided tour of COXPER’s metal artworks at the Design Hub.
Cold Riveting Copper Tag Workshop
Most metalwork we see daily relies on high-temperature welding. However, there is another incredibly direct method of joining metal, relying purely on your hands and a hammer—”Cold Riveting”.
It is an unpretentious metalworking technique. It cannot be seamlessly hidden, and every hammer mark left behind is clearly visible. We appreciate this “imperfection” that carries the warmth of handcraft; it represents the most authentic dialogue between hands and metal.
In this two-hour workshop, you will slow down, learn the fundamental techniques of cold riveting, and hand-forge your own exclusive copper tag.
What is Cold Riveting? Cold riveting is an ancient and robust metal-joining technique. Unlike modern welding, the process requires no heat. Instead, it relies on precise hammering to flatten and expand a metal rivet, locking two pieces of metal tightly together. The rounded rivet head left behind is not only functional but also carries a grounded, industrial, and artisanal aesthetic.
Workshop Highlights
Hand-forge Your Exclusive Copper Tag: Experience cold riveting from scratch and feel the resilience and weight of the metal.
No Heat Required, Safe and Easy to Learn: The process involves no blowtorches, making it perfect for beginners interested in handcrafts.
Exclusive Guided Tour: After the workshop, COXPER founders Nathan & Hazel will personally guide participants to the Design Hub (approx. 30 minutes) to view our recent physical metal art installations and share the stories behind the creations and our daily metalworking life.
